C. J. McCarrol writes dark, character-driven crime thrillers exploring faith, power and the secrets people protect.
His debut novel, Dark Vicar, introduces New York detective Òran Black and cybercrime specialist Sam Cartwright as they pursue a killer whose crimes expose a conspiracy reaching far beyond the police investigation. Its forthcoming sequel, The Dark King, returns to Black and Cartwright as a new series of ritualised murders begins to emerge across the city.
Blending police procedural, psychological suspense and religious mystery, McCarrol’s novels feature morally complex characters, intricate investigations and crimes rooted in history, symbolism and belief. At their heart is the question of what people become when certainty gives way to obsession.
